What kind of websites were you planning to build?

In the last century, I used to write a daily journal on the web, and since then I've expanded to several business sites while neglecting my personal stuff. I hope to get back to deep and thoughtful writing one of these days, but for now I am having fun with UFO management, ebook development, and even a new weekly radio program with my husband.

How did you hear about Sandvox?

I wish I could remember how I heard about Sandvox because I am such a huge fan now. I tell everyone about it because it has already solved so many business problems for me. I probably found out about it from a Mac forum, and I remember spending a lot of time comparing it to RapidWeaver before finally making a decision.

What made you decide to get Sandvox?

I've tried every single way to make websites, from every type of blog software as well as Dreamweaver and the old GoLive. Before that, I just loved Claris Homepage and when I discovered Sandvox, I hoped it would be as easy to use as Homepage was, and it is! I also hoped it would be as innovative as TypePad or WordPress, and it is!

In fact, it's way ahead of all other website development tools because it's got built-in blog tools -- Dreamweaver does not! -- as well as the ability to really customize. You will hit the wall in TypePad or WordPress unless you're a good programmer. Ditto for RapidWeaver.

But if you like to use applications instead of writing code, you will be in heaven with Sandvox. I am. Thank you, developers and designers!

Now that you have Sandvox, what do you like about it?

I love the ability to change design by hitting just one button. This gives me lots of ideas as I work. For a few dollars, there are also lots of second-party designs, and I've really loved adding them.

You can drag-and-drop images and text into your pages and change fonts and styles like any layout or word-processing program. The code is generated in the background so you can play with design on real pages.

And the publish feature is wonderful: a tiny change on any pages is instantly made, on whatever pages are affected, without going through your old FTP program or worrying that you forgot to upload an image.

Love love love!

What would be a good way to search for a program like Sandvox?

UFO Magazine

Since I'm building more than one site, I've begun to experiment with snippets what will allow three columns. On my UFO Mag site, I'm proud of my long banner that has two layers, and a trick I've used is to carefully space and name the sections I will use for the top menu so that it looks nice. I...
